Where is the Illinois River Road?
Traversing both east and west sides of the Illinois River from Ottawa, 150 miles south to Havana, the Illinois River Road has spurs to the communities of Princeton and Canton. The Illinois River Road corridor has over 100 natural and historic sites and numerous unique communities located throughout its 10-county region.

The Scenic Byway is conveniently located between Chicago and St. Louis, but just far enough to get away from it all. So get off the beaten path and see what the Illinois River Road has in store for you!

For more than 20 years, people have gathered at Dickson Mounds on the third Saturday of every month for an evening of musical entertainment. Hosted by Chris Vallillo, an accomplished musician and performer in his own right, the series features Roots/Folk music and other genres offered by a talented variety of performers. Blues Master King Neptune (Chris Buchanan) will bring classic Piedmont style Blues to the Hickory Ridge Concert Series on Saturday, October 21st at 7:00 pm in the Dickson Mounds Museum auditorium. Performing on guitar and voice, he’ll be playing the music from the golden age of acoustic blues- folks like Blind Blake, Memphis Minnie, Bessie Smith with a bit of early Jazz thrown in for fun. Join us at the Museum to learn about the different ducks, geese, and swans at the Emiquon National Wildlife Refuge. View live ducks and learn about current research conducted by Forbes Biological Station. Kids ages fifteen and under may participate in a Youth Duck Call Contest. Afterwards, participants may journey down with a Refuge Ranger to view the wildlife at the South Globe park lot. Binoculars and spotting scopes will be available for use. Participants should dress appropriately for this outdoor activity. This program is in collaboration with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Illinois River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge Complex and Forbes Biological Station. Registration is required.
